Northwest Crushers tops in Nebraska tourney

The U13 Northwest Crushers Travel Baseball Team won the Division-3 SlumpBusters Tournament Championship in Omaha, Neb., over Father’s Day Weekend.

The Crushers, who play their home games in Hoffman Estates, advanced to a 12-team single-elimination tournament bracket. The Crushers won their final three games of the tournament and defeated a team from Alabama in the Championship Game.

The Crushers were led by outstanding pitching performances by Ryan Dowd, Jeff Korus, Dylan Schoknecht and Jimmy Martin. Solid hitting performances by Zach Plesnicar, Collin Heidner, Jason Godawski, Jeff Korus, and Timmy Zerfass also helped the team advance.

The Crushers had excellent defensive performances from center fielder Cole Wasowicz, catcher Garret Kolderup, second basemen and right fielders Lucas Kinsey and Joey Plizga, and outfielder/shortstop Joe Kranz.
