Police: Bolingbrook man charged after leaving daughter in car

A Bolingbrook man was charged with endangering the life or health of a child after allegedly leaving his 5-year-old daughter in a car Saturday morning while visiting a Naperville bar.

William T. Gaston, 34, was arrested near his Pontiac Grand Prix at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot in the 0 to 100 block of West Van Buren Avenue, Sgt. Gregg Bell said.

Bell said Gaston parked his car with the girl in the back seat and entered Rizzo's Bar and Grill on West Jefferson Avenue.

Bell said Gaston indicated he had gone "to see a friend" at the bar, but spent at least 90 minutes in the establishment.

A motorist who parked next to Gaston noticed the girl sitting in the back seat, awake and unharmed, Bell said. The motorist contacted a police officer, who investigated.

Bell said Gaston walked up to the vehicle as the officer was talking with the girl. She was released after the investigation into her mother's custody, he said.

Bell said there was no evidence Gaston was intoxicated or had been drinking in the establishment.

Bell said the Department of Children and Family Services has been contacted.

Gaston was charged with the misdemeanor complaint of endangering the life of a child.
