Crash injures 3 near Batavia, Geneva

Three people were taken to hospitals after a three-vehicle crash Friday morning at Kirk Road and Fabyan Parkway in Geneva, authorities said.

The Batavia fire department took two people to Central DuPage Hospital and one to Delnor Community Hospital after the 8:12 a.m. crash, Battalion Chief Ed Jancauskas said. Three others refused transportation to a hospital.

According to a crash report from the Geneva police department, a Nissan King Cab driven by Ismael Espinal, 56, of West Chicago, ran a red light while heading west on Fabyan Parkway and struck a Mercury Mariner driven by 19-year-old Brandon Williams of St. Charles.

Espinal was cited for failing to stop at the red light, according to the report. He and his passenger, Emelda Espinal, were taken to Central DuPage Hospital.

Williams and one of his passengers refused transportation to a hospital, and Williams was not cited after the crash. But passenger Thomas Gleason Jr. of St. Charles was taken to Delnor Community Hospital, according to the crash report.

A third vehicle also was involved in the crash. Its driver was not cited and refused medical treatment.

There was moderate damage to the vehicles at the scene when fire personnel arrived, Jancauskas said. The front of Espinal’s Nissan was damaged on both sides, according to the report. The back left of the Mercury driven by Williams was damaged, as was the front left side of the other car involved in the crash.
