Arrest follows bomb threat at St. Charles East
A bomb threat at St. Charles East High School led to the arrest of a 16-year-old female student Thursday, police said. It’s the second incident in the district in three weeks where police were called to investigate the potential for serious danger.
St. Charles Police Spokesman Paul McCurtain announced the arrest Friday. He said a student found a handwritten note in a well-traveled hallway at the school stating that bombs had been placed in all of the school’s bathrooms. An internal school investigation quickly led to the female student, police said. The student’s identity is being withheld because she is a minor.
A locker search yielded evidence tying the female student to the note, police said. Police were not specific as to the type and quality of the evidence.
The student was taken into custody by police to complete a full investigation. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges of felony disorderly conduct for the alleged bomb threat and felony disorderly conduct for allegedly making a threat of school violence.
The female student was taken to the Kane County Juvenile Detention Facility to await a hearing Friday.
Last month school officials evacuated St. Charles North High School when a single live round of ammunition was found in a common area of the school. That investigation is ongoing.
Police said the student arrested at St. Charles East is not believed to have any connection to the incident at North.
