Belleau Woods could use some work
As a recreational user of the Herrick Lake, Danada Farms, Blackwell and St. James Farms forest preserves, I applaud the DuPage County Forest Preserve for these beautiful, scenic and well maintained sites. These and other properties are a treasure to our county.
However, as a resident of Wheaton I have never been impressed with the western gateway of our community, namely the Belleau Woods property. The northern boundary of this property is generally not maintained and has no distinction from Roosevelt Road and County Farm Road.
In my opinion, the forest preserve could be far better neighbors by improving and maintaining this property, even at the expense of a few fallen dead trees, bug habitats and perhaps bird nests. While I’m not advocating another bank or drive-through, the forest preserve needs to be sensitive to the neighbors of these properties. Excuse me, but they need to “spruce” it up!
