Sounds of Summer concert series opens in Palatine
Palatine Park District presents the 25th anniversary season of the Sounds of Summer Concert Series with an all-new lineup selected by the audience. All performances are free.
Performances begin at 8 p.m. at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater, 262 E. Palatine Road. In the event of inclement weather, performances will be canceled. Call the recorded message at (847) 705-5123, ext. 431, for weather-related cancellations.
Wednesday, June 13: Palatine Concert Band: Palatine's own 90-member ensemble will present an evening of light summer fare with a variety of selections ranging from classical to popular.
Friday, June 15: American English: Relive the days of the Beatles. Using identical instruments the legendary group used, this Palatine favorite has an uncanny ability to reproduce the vocal style and harmonies of the Beatles.
Wednesday, June 20: 7th Heaven: The lead singer, winner of the British TV version of “American Idol” known as “Pop Stars,” was brought in straight from Northern Ireland. Musicianship, theatrics, and that unmistakable Irish brogue fuel original songs that come straight from the radio playlist.
Friday, June 22: The Neverly Brothers: You will be transported back in time when American Rockabilly pioneers were laying the foundation of rock and roll and young British pop bands were emulating the sounds of these rock forefathers.
Wednesday, June 27: Jack Salamander: Jack Salamander has a unique approach to soulful, funky songs that will make you move, think and laugh.
Wednesday, July 11: Palatine Concert Band: Palatine's ensemble performs.
Friday, July 20: Triadd: Triadd performs fun, high-energy classic rock favorites in an electroacoustic format. Best of all, three out of the four musicians grew up in Palatine.
Wednesday, July 25: Palatine Children's Chorus: The Palatine Park District's own Children's Concert Choir, under the artistic direction of Sue Falbo, will present their 17th concert on the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater stage.
Friday, July 27: Bopology: Foot tappin' swing music from the '30s, '40s and '50s with singing like Frank Sinatra and the big band style of Duke Ellington.
Wednesday, August 1: Palatine Concert Band: Palatine's own 90-member ensemble performs.
Friday, Aug. 3: Ronnie Rice: Ronnie Rice picked up a guitar when he was 16 years old and hasn't put it down yet. He began his musical career as a solo performer in Evanston. In the late 1960s, Ron joined the Chicago-based group The New Colony Six and sang lead vocals on many of their hit records.
