McNabb benched for ex-Bears' QB Grossman

ASHBURN, Va. -- Donovan McNabb's benching has teammates wondering what's ahead for the Washington Redskins.

Coach Mike Shanahan pulled a stunner Sunday and yanked McNabb for Rex Grossman with 1:50 to play and trailing by six to the Detroit Lions.

Shanahan said he felt Grossman had a better grasp of the two-minute offense and thus gave the team a better chance to win. Grossman fumbled when he was hit on the first play, and the Redskins lost 37-25.

Cornerback DeAngelo Hall said Monday it was "definitely a shocker" that McNabb was pulled. He said it raises the question: "After the season, will he be here or not?"

Shanahan was expected to address the matter later Monday. He said after the game that McNabb is still the starter.

The Redskins have a bye this week.
