Wood Dale man killed while changing tire

A Wood Dale man died Saturday when the semitruck tire he was filling with air blew out and struck him, leaving him with fatal internal injuries, officials said Sunday.

Bogdan Gaca, 53, was changing the tire in front of his home on Dunlay Street when the incident occurred, Deputy Chief Greg Vesta said. Police were called to the residence about 11 a.m.

Gaca was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where he was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m.

“We're not looking at this as any criminal element or anything suspicious,” Vesta said. “It's just an unfortunate incident for this gentleman and his family.”

The Cook County medical examiner's office was expected to conduct an autopsy Sunday.
