Palatine youth theater to tackle ‘Seussical’

Caught in the Act, the summer youth theater group that has been presenting performances in Palatine since 1996, will prepare participants for two performances of “Seussical.”

“Seussical” is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza with all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and a little boy named Jojo with an imagination.

The Caught in the Act program is designed for singers, dancers and actors ages 10 to 15 who are looking for an immersion experience in the world of musical theater. Training in all three areas is not required; the instructors will assist those who have a willingness to learn.

All kids are assigned a role based on their level of development and experience, and based on a prepared vocal audition and movement and script-reading auditions that will be taught on the first day of the program. The workshop will consist of training in proper vocal, acting and movement technique. Camp will also include swimming at the Family Aquatic Center two days per week during the first few weeks of the program. Regular attendance by all participants is mandatory.

The program begins July 9 and will culminate with performances at Cutting Hall Performing Arts Center at 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3 and 4. Tickets to see a performance are $10, or $9 for groups of 20 or more.
