Boomers end road losing streak, beat Slammers 5-3

JOLIET — The Schaumburg Boomers stopped a six-game road losing streak by holding off the Joliet Slammers 5-3 Monday night, moving into a tie for first with the team's third consecutive victory.

Nate Baumann gave Schaumburg a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with a home run on the first pitch of the inning from Joliet starter Steven Maxwell. The long ball allowed the Boomers to extend the lead to 4-0 in the fifth. With Mike Valadez and Drew Heithoff on base, Gerard Hall connected on a three-run homer.

Schaumburg starter Cameron Roth, who improved to 4-0, pitched 6 2/3 innings and scattered 8 hits while walking two and striking out two.

The brief three game road series continues at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
