Hearts go out to slain Wheaton soldier

My friends and I went to the Wheaton Memorial Day parade, as is our tradition. It is a wonderful event. The street is filled with school marching bands playing patriotic music, lots of flags, veterans and kids.

It is pure Americana at its best. There are no politicians to muck it up. This year was particularly poignant as we just brought home to rest Samuel Watts, a 20 year old Wheaton North graduate, who died in Afghanistan.

Our hearts go out to his family and friends and to all the others who have been lost. It is such a fine thing to recognize and honor our veterans. We look forward to this day all year and we thank all the people who make this parade the very special event that it is.
