Warning about ticks:Now that the weather is getting warmer, Lake County Health Department officials are warning local residents about ticks and the diseases they can inflict. To reduce tick habitats at your home, clear leaf litter under trees, keep the ground clean under bird feeders, keep grass near playground equipment short, install wood chip or gravel barriers between lawns and wooded and tall grass areas and minimize wood piles that attract small mammals that can carry ticks. For more information about ticks, visit lakecountyil.gov/health or call (847) 377-8002.Fox Lake in Bloom:A "Fox Lake in Bloom" curb clean up celebration is scheduled for April 17 and 18. Volunteers are welcome to help clean up the community with two events that the weekend. The first starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, at Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd. The second is in the Jewel Parking Lot at routes 12 and 134 at 7 a.m. on Sunday, April 18. People will meet at either location, then be sent into the village to assist in the clean up. People are asked to bring gloves, rakes, hoes, brooms and other equipment. For information, visit the village Web site at www.foxlake.org.Lake Zurich seeks new clerk:Lake Zurich residents can apply to be the acting village clerk, as current Village Clerk Wende Dau resigned affective April 15. Dau is moving out of the village boundary. The acting clerk will begin serving upon appointment until election in spring 2011 and would receive the village clerk's $4,800 annual salary until then.
