No one injured in overnight Schaumburg fire
No one was injured but a Schaumburg family was left homeless following an overnight fire in the 900 block of Swarthmore Court early Friday morning.
Deputy Chief William Spencer of the Schaumburg Fire Department said a cat was killed in the blaze that struck at about 12:30 a.m. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. The family is staying with neighbors until other arrangements can be made, Spencer said.
A resident from the home reported the fire, which was burning on three walls by the time firefighters arrived, he said. Firefighters had the fire under control and knocked down within 15 minutes, but not before flames and water did about $175,000 in damage. The fire seemed to originate from the garage or a nearby room off the garage, he said.
The home was deemed uninhabitable by the village of Schaumburg, he said.
