Cougars inch closer to Prairie title

Vernon Hills’ girls soccer team moved a step closer to winning the North Suburban Prairie Division championship with a 5-0 win over host Grant on Tuesday night.

Julie Pecht and Katherine Koczwara scored in the first half, and Amy Andrea, Kaitlin Gramins and Alex Goldstein tallied in the second half, as the Cougars improved to 9-5-1 and 4-0 in the NSC Prairie.

Gramins figured on all three second-half strikes, as she also had a pair of assists. Goldstein had an assist in each half. Maddison Guilllaume also assisted on a goal.

Grant fell to 7-10-1, 2-2.

Warren 2, Zion-Benton 1: Kenzie Verheyen scored for the Blue Devils and assisted on Lexi Reyes’ goal in the North Suburban Lake match.

Amanda Macuiba made 4 saves in goal for Warren (7-7-3, 2-2-1).

Antioch 5, Round Lake 1: Erica Slack scored twice for the Sequoits, who improved to 8-8-1 and 3-1 in the North Suburban Prairie.

Brittany Kelly, Mikayla Abbeduto and Cailee Laurel also scored for Antioch, while Ashley Mihovilovich had an assist.
