Scouting Lockport at York

No. 16 Lockport (5-4) at No. 1 York (8-1)

Class 8A

Game time: 7 p.m. today.

Porters fast fact: Class 8A champion in 2002, 2003.

Dukes fast fact: Five-year playoff streak broken last season.

Outlook: Dukes running back Ryan Kent enters the playoffs as DuPage County's leading rusher with 1,358 yards and 18 touchdowns, and York no doubt will rely on that strength after clinching a share of the West Suburban Silver title behind it. Look for York defensive standout Nick Skuteris to bring more power to the ground game at fullback. The Porters, though, would be wise to respect the Dukes' ability to break a long pass with quarterback Jim Nudera, who has thrown for 1,108 yards, and receivers David Byerley, averaging nearly 27 yards on his 24 catches, and Jordan Pruess. The Dukes' defense, meanwhile, has one clear focus slowing down powerful Porters running back Dan Holman. Despite some inconsistency this season, Holman remains dangerous. Like the Dukes, though, Lockport also has the ability to loosen up defenses with the passing of quarterback Billy Reed. York defensive back Joe Paparone is among the area's best.

Advancement: Winner advances to play the winner between No. 9 Naperville North (6-3) and No. 8 Marist (6-3).
