‘Equitable’ doesn’t mean ‘fair’ to Dems
Alleging hypocrisy, letter writer Will Labovitch complained that Republicans in Illinois want to turn the tables and remap the legislative districts to eliminate Democrats from serious political competition.
He thanked Minnesota’s Gov. Mark Dayton and the courts for thwarting GOP plans there and for producing more “equitable maps.” In the Democratic dictionary, “equitable” means favorable to Democrats, just as the maps are in Illinois. It does not mean “fair” or “just” or “honest.”
In support of his criticism, he cited five Republican dominated states which have dared to frustrate Democratic ambitions. So, let us just see what GOP policies mean for the citizens of each state. The unemployment rates in these Republican dominated states follow: Minnesota, 5.8 percent; Wisconsin, 6.8 percent; Utah, 5.8 percent; Ohio, 7.8 percent; Texas, 7.0 percent. In Illinois, where Democrats have had everything their way for the last nine years, the unemployment rate stands at 8.8 percent.
The Republican dominated states, which Labovitch listed, surpassed in job creation not only in Illinois but also the national average of 8.2 percent unemployment. In the Democratic dictionary, “equitable” also does not mean “jobs.”
