Dreams come true for student, parents

We want to say thank you to the senior class at Wheaton North High School for all the support and encouragement this student body has demonstrated to our son, Sean.

His participation as manager of the varsity football team and varsity volleyball team, a member of the FLOCK club (a peer based support group for students with special needs) and as second runner-up to Mr. Wheaton North (a high school talent show for male students) this year has been more than we could have imagined for our son when he was born with Down syndrome 19 years ago.

Sean hoped to win the Mr. Wheaton North contest as he would have been proud to wear the crown. But Sean’s hope to wear a crown came true when he was voted king of his senior prom and the first words out of his mouth were “My dream came true!”

We now know our dream came true for our son to be accepted by his peers and as a vital part of this community. Dreams come true, not only for our children but for us parents, too.
