Bartlett’s Videckis weighing her options
Haley Videckis has been out shopping. And not for prom dresses.
Well, Videckis is probably in the market for a prom dress, but the Bartlett senior is also in the market for a college.
And there are a number of schools lining up at Videckis’ door with scholarship offers.
Videckis, the all-state Bartlett senior who was the honorary co-captain of the Daily Herald’s Fox Valley all-area team this past season, signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Indiana. But after the Hoosiers fired coach Felisha Legette-Jack, Videckis asked new coach Curt Miller for her release, which he granted. The release gives Videckis the right to now select a new school with no NCAA penalty.
She’s finding the market to be bullish. She has offers from Illinois and Northwestern, Oklahoma called with an offer on Tuesday, and she’ll visit Arizona State this weekend with an offer on the table. She visited Illinois and Northwestern last week.
Illinois just hired Matt Bollant from Wisconsin-Green Bay as its new coach.
“I’m just trying to see all the options,” said the 6-foot Videckis, who averaged 18 points and 6 rebounds per game in leading Bartlett to third place in the Class 4A state finals. “It’s just going to go how it goes. I really can’t say where I’m going right now.”
Videckis said she hasn’t totally ruled out Indiana, giving Miller kudos for not fighting her release request when he left a highly successful run at Bowling Green State to take the Indiana job.
“There’s no doubt he’s a great coach,” said Videckis, who scored 1,350 career points at Bartlett. “He’s really trying to recruit me but I’ve told him Indiana isn’t my first option. He’s a great man. He didn’t have to release me but he did. I really respect him for that. But I want to see what else is out there.
“I love Northwestern, the new Illinois coach is awesome and Arizona is my dream place to be.”
Videckis said she had no time table on making a decision.
