Woodridge Police Department Presents a Topic Forum on Synthetic Drugs May 8th
The Woodridge Police Department is hosting a topic forum on synthetic drugs on Tuesday, May 8th at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodridge Public Library. The event will be hosted by members of the Woodridge Police Department's Tactical Unit. The Tactical Unit is a plain clothes unit focused on drug and gang suppression within the community.
The format of the event includes a presentation by Officer Mike Wolfe, who has gone through extensive training on synthetic drugs including: what they are, where they are obtained and how to identify if someone has ingested them. In addition to the presentation, many members from the police department will be present to field your questions on this topic and any other topic you would like to discuss. Remember, as with every topic forum you can always participate electronically on our village's Facebook page if you can't attend the event.
Who should attend? Anyone who is interested in learning more about synthetic drugs should attend this topic forum. Specifically, parents of school-aged children may find this an invaluable topic forum to attend, helping them to better understand how to detect if your child has encountered synthetic drugs and how to talk to them about these dangerous substances. In addition, this forum will give you an opportunity to talk with law enforcement officials in the community and ask questions.
Why should I attend? Synthetic drugs have been linked to many deaths both locally and nationally. In fact, in the first six months of 2011, approximately 7,000 calls were made to the National Poison Control Center reporting exposure to synthetic drugs. These statistics are startling considering these numbers have doubled since 2010. Every parent should understand what these substances are and the ever-changing nature of this dangerous industry. We hope to see you there.
