Elk Grove donates prom dresses for Cinderella Project

Elk Grove High School will hold its first student-run Cinderella’s Closet from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 28, in the school foyer, 500 W. Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove Village.

The event will offer “gently used” dresses, shoes, and accessories. A $5 donation will be accepted at the door to shop at the event, but no one will be refused entrance for inability to pay.

Every girl can shop for a dress and a pair of shoes at no cost. Donated dresses will be accepted through Friday, April 27, in the school’s main office.

There have been similar projects over the years at Elk Grove High School, but organizers are hopeful that The Cinderella Project will bring new interest among the student body, so that it will continue as an annual event.

Elk Grove seniors Kerry Trotter, Natalie Przybylski and Ioana Manahilova are the coordinators, along with student council sponsor Cindy D’Alessandro.

“I decided to do the project because everyone should have the opportunity to experience prom the way they dreamed it would be,” Manahilova said.

At the Elk Grove High School Prom Fashion show April 7, the girls had a chance to promote the drive and the businesses providing raffle gifts for the event. Every girl who donates a dress will receive a raffle ticket for gifts from VV Nails, PS Nails, Great Clips and Ultimate Exposure Tan.

The community is also invited to participate in The Cinderella Project by donating gently used prom dresses. Email D’Alessandro at cindy.dalessand@d214.org or call the school’s main office, (847) 718-4400, for details.
