D15 Royale awards presented to district artists

At the end of the evening, artists from within the District 15 community were presented with the “Best of Show” and “People’s Choice” awards selected from the many submissions to D15 Royale’s Art Auction Extravaganza.

D15 Royale, the District Fifteen Educational Foundation’s premiere fundraiser of the year, was held March 3, at the Meadows Club in Rolling Meadows. Hundreds of donations for the event’s art auction fundraiser were submitted by students, teachers and other members of the local artistic community, and displayed in a juried exhibition prior to being sold during D15 Royale’s benefit art auction.

The Foundation Board of Trustees named two “Best of Show” winners from among the participating artists. They were “Buckaroo Pit Stop,” an enhanced digital photo by Michael Freitag, an art teacher at Winston Campus and Walter R. Sundling Junior High, and “Amazing Animal Quilt,” by quilter Deborah Sander and the Pleasant Hill Fifth-Grade Art Club sponsored by Leslie Michaels, the school’s art teacher.

Additionally, those attending the gala fundraiser cast their ballots for the “People’s Choice Award,” which went to “All of Our Heart,” a massive crayon drawing of a heart made by Gray M. Sanborn School students and Joanna Angelopoulos, their teacher.
