A night of good music and food for a good cause

On Wednesday, Nov. 10, Brass from the Past and Tod Curtis will be hosting a charity benefit to collect food donations for the Mount Prospect Food Pantry at Curtis' Ye Olde Town Inn restaurant, 18 W. Busse Ave. in downtown Mount Prospect.

For a donation admission of three nonperishable food items, benefit goers will enjoy a night of good music and good food all for a good cause starting at 7 p.m. with a free all-you-can-eat pizza buffet follow by Brass from the Past taking the stage at 8 p.m.

“These are obviously trying times for many people and families. With our band members being local and Tod Curtis involvement in Mount Prospect, we agreed the Mount Prospect Food Pantry was in the most need,” commented Brass from the Past founder John Tomassone. “With Thanksgiving and Christmas fast approaching, hopefully our effort will increase awareness and encourage others to help in some way.”

The village of Mount Prospect Food pantry is administered by the Human Services Department, which is located at 50 S. Emerson St. The food pantry accepts nonperishable food items (canned fruits and vegetables, rice, pasta, soup, etc.) and paper goods.

Conceived in the spring of 2008 by John Tomassone, Brass from the Past has been steadily bringing back the spectacular “brass” band sound of the 1960's and '70's to the Chicagoland by combining a mix of six horns, a four piece rhythm section and three outstanding vocalists into an dynamic performance that is receiving an “A” from the X generation crowd and gaining popularity among the Y and Z generations.

Staying true to the originals Brass from the Past has resurrected the music of Chicago (Transit Authority), Blood, Sweat & Tears, Tom Jones, Sam and Dave, The Blues Brothers, Ides of March, Eddie Floyd, Jackie Wilson, Joe Cocker, and James Brown.

The vocalists provide cover from Terry Kath's, Tom Jones' and David Clayton-Thomas'. In addition, the band covers Santana, Doobie Brothers, Michael Buble', Bobby Darrin and a wide variety of other artists.
