Prospect High School puts on “The Wedding Singer”

Prospect High School will take audiences back to the ’80s in this year’s spring musical, “The Wedding Singer,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, April 25-28, in the school theater.

Based on the hit Adam Sandler-Drew Barrymore film, the stage production is jam-packed with pop culture references and songs reminiscent of Bon Jovi and Heart.

Wannabe rock star Robbie Hart, played by junior Steven Tworek, makes his living as New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer until he is left at the altar, brokenhearted. Robbie takes out his bitterness onstage, making every gig a complete disaster, until a charming waitress named Julia (sophomore Jennifer Ruda) captures his heart.

Unfortunately, Julia is engaged to a successful Wall Street broker (sophomore Josh Arshonsky), and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of his lifetime, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.

Audiences will root for Robbie and Julia as they hope to find the happiness that seems to elude them.

Other cast members are seniors Adam Canonaco, Connor Fitzgerald, Kelsey Henquinet and Jacqueline Dunderdale, and sophomore Leanne Gadow.

Jeremy Morton is the director; Colleen Timler is music director; assistant director/assistant vocal director is Stephen Colella; the orchestra director is Chris Barnum; technical director, Matt Erbach; costumer/make-up designer, Pat Doyle; and house managers, Morton and Sandy Ghilarducci.

Student directors are seniors Danielle Keeton and Marguerite Incardone; juniors Sean Brennan, Madalyn Bryant and Lauren Kinser; and sophomores Marta Zoltowski, Dana Lasswell, and Sammie Smolenski.

Advance tickets, $9, are available by phone at (847) 718-5222; tickets at the door are $10, if not sold out.
