Emery may start Game 5 for Blackhawks
GLENDALE, Ariz. — After allowing a self-described “terrible” goal in overtime of Game 3 and following that up with one he's still not sure how it got past him in OT of Game 4, there's a possibility Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford could be replaced in net by Ray Emery in Game 5.
“We're talking about that,” Hawks coach Joel Quenneville said Friday before the team's charter took off for Phoenix. “We'll talk about our scenario. I don't foresee making any announcements.”
Crawford has started all four games of the series and each has gone into overtime. He's stayed with Phoenix goalie Mike Smith in regulation, but the extra sessions haven't been too kind.
“We've seen some great hockey from Corey over this series,” Jonathan Toews said. “He's one of those guys who's very hard on himself.
“But really what you don't notice is those little things he does every play, every shift, the stops he is making to keep us in these tight games. Maybe he deserves a little more credit for that, so we're standing behind him. He's worked as hard if not harder than anybody in the series and he deserves our full support. We need to be better and more supportive in front of him.”
Making an impression:
Rookie Brandon Saad was plus-1 in just over 13 minutes of ice time and registered 4 hits in his first NHL playoff game.
“Saad played a good game,” Joel Quenneville said.
He said it:
“They're passionate fans in Chicago and I wouldn't expect anything less. If I wasn't playing hockey, I'd be doing the same thing. I'd be up there yelling and screaming at someone. So, it's a really fun atmosphere.”
