Mt. Prospect seminar on emerald ash borer
The Mount Prospect Public Works Department Forestry/Grounds Division will host a seminar about the emerald ash borer from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Public Works Emergency Operations Center, 1720 W. Central Road, Mount Prospect.
The staff will discuss some of the many options now available for property owners who want to treat ash trees with insecticides in an attempt to prevent infestation.
“EAB finds in Mount Prospect have been increasing exponentially in the last year,” said Forestry/Grounds Superintendent Sandy Clark. “EAB has already killed millions of ash trees in the United States and is now widespread throughout much of Illinois.
“For several years the village has been urging owners of ash trees to budget for either removal or replacement of their ash trees within the next few years, or begin treating routinely with an approved insecticide.”
The staff will not recommend any particular products or vendors, but at the seminar they will review some of the important factors that property owners should consider when deciding whether and how to treat their ash trees.
All Mount Prospect property owners are invited to attend the seminar. Those who cannot attend are invited to check the village website, www.mountprospect.org, for information about EAB, including insecticide options.
