Homemade explosives found in Schaumburg

Two Schaumburg residents on opposite sides of the 300 block of Langley Drive reported finding homemade explosives in plastic water bottles on their properties March 28, police said Monday.

Both objects were found unexploded and were vented of their chemicals by Schaumburg firefighters. The first was reported in a mailbox at 10:35 a.m., just hours after the same mailbox was reported knocked over by a vehicle and four days after it was reported damaged by unspecified means.

At 5:02 p.m. the same day, a homeowner across the street found a similar plastic bottle in the front yard while mowing the lawn.
