Kelly opts out of basketball coaching at Prospect
After guiding Prospect to winning records in all five of her seasons, coach Martha Kelly is resigning.
She was only the third girls basketball coach at Prospect, succeeding Jean Walker and Mike Nocella.
“After much reflection I have decided to step down,” Kelly said. “The last five years have been a wonderful experience with some good times and the chance to coach some good players.”
Kelly’s team had records 15-13, 19-10, 20-9, 15-13, 16-13.
“It wasn’t easy in a very competitive Mid-Suburban League and with a tough schedule,” said Kelly, a math teacher at the District 214 school who finished at 85-58 with back-to-back regional titles in 2009 and 2010.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to pursue new challenges,” added Kelly, who currently is coaching the Knights junior varsity softball team, which is 4-0. “I love basketball and love coaching and hope to be able to continue doing what I love in the future.”
Kelly was a former three-sport standout at Driscoll Catholic High School and graduated from Purdue.
