Creationism should be part of discussion

It is time that Illinois gets on the same page as Tennessee, and pass a law that affords our students true critical thinking and discussion regarding evolution and creationism. Evolution as science should be discussed as should creationism and intelligent design, whatever the latter is — a dubious compromise to remove religion from the equation.

Evolution has scientific value, no doubt: it can be substantiated to a degree. However, it does have scientific weaknesses: there is no proven missing link and if the theory (the operative word) is so solid why hasn’t it continued through all species through time? Note what is the real travesty is that our system of public education denies the very existence of creationism in their textbooks by omission, and we the people (parents) allow this.

Evolution is the only option taught — intelligent design is portrayed as a radical option to be perhaps considered for those who cannot accept the “science” of evolution in the entirety; leaving one to think they aren’t quite smart enough to grasp the “truth.” Creationism is off the table; though most of us believe, I venture to say, is in fact the “truth.” Why do we allow our public education system to get away with this?

It is time to get beyond this nonsense. Get involved with your respective PTA and school boards. Let your state senators and representatives know how you feel.
