Carol Stream murder case set for May trial
A May 3 trial date was set Monday for a Carol Stream man accused of stabbing his mother to death and defacing her body with chemicals.
Robert R. Lyons, 38, faces first-degree murder charges in the March 2008 slaying of 61-year-old Linda Bolek. Jury selection begins May 3 before Du-Page County Judge Kathryn Creswell.
Authorities have said Lyons stabbed his mother nine times before pouring household chemicals on her following an argument in their condominium on Klein Creek Court in Carol Stream. The victim was found slain in the kitchen on March 14, 2008, after police responded to a well-being check and possible domestic situation.
Police arrested Lyons that evening at Hooter’s Restaurant, 1705 E. Golf Road in Schaumburg. He later gave a videotaped statement, prosecutors have said.
Lyons remained in the DuPage County jail Monday on $2 million bond.
