Charges pending in Schaumburg home invasion
Three men arrested after an attempted home invasion in Schaumburg Wednesday evening might not be formally charged until early Saturday morning.
One police officer was shot at but escaped injury as the suspects fled the scene.
Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said the investigation is complicated by the blocks-wide area of the crime scene caused by the suspects fleeing in different directions.
The amount of snowfall that's occurred since Wednesday night hasn't helped either, Nebl added.
Though investigators believe they have a good handle on the motive for the home invasion, they weren't yet able to reveal it Friday.
However, Nebl could confirm that the house was not chosen randomly.
Police expect to charge the three in time for a bond hearing Saturday morning at the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows, Nebl said.
Schaumburg police received a call for help from a house on the 1000 block of Stonehedge Drive at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday. The two officers who first responded were denied entry, but could hear a commotion.
One of the officers walked to the back of the house and confronted a man there who turned and fired two shots before running away. The officer pursued the man. Other officers responded to the call and the three suspects were arrested within a few blocks of the house.
One of the two occupants of the house suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene by Schaumburg paramedics.
