Community Scholarship deadline is April 13

Schaumburg Village President Al Larson recently announced the availability of the 19th annual Community Scholarship, in cooperation with The Workforce Board of Northern Cook County. A president’s committee will select the scholarship winner(s).

As a result of a joint scholarship development campaign in the business community, Schaumburg has been provided funding to award a scholarship(s) to qualified resident(s) to pursue educational training, upgrading or retraining.

The scholarship(s) can be applied toward tuition, books, and any other commensurate educational expenses.

Eligibility and selection criteria include:

Ÿ Must be a resident of the village of Schaumburg;

Ÿ Must demonstrate financial need;

Ÿ May be a first-time, continuing or returning student;

Ÿ Must have education or career goals;

Ÿ Must be interested in completing coursework that supports education or career goals;

Ÿ Must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete coursework;

Ÿ Must take coursework at an approved Illinois educational institution;

Ÿ May submit only one application per person.

Candidates must complete the scholarship application, submit two references and photo identification, which includes date of birth and social security number. Follow the directions given in each section of this application; failure to do so may result in disqualification.

Candidates must submit completed application and two references by 3 p.m. Friday, April 13, to: Office of the President, 101 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg, IL 60193.

The scholarship recipient will be notified by Friday, April 27, or as soon as possible thereafter. The scholarship is valid until June 15, 2013, and is nonrenewable.

Scholarship recipients will not receive cash. The Coordinator of Workforce Administrative Services at the Workforce Board of Northern Cook County will assist the scholarship recipient with academic advising, enrollment and payment directly to the educational institution of tuition, fees, books and approved supplies not exceeding the amount of the scholarship.
