Small dog survives coyote attack in Wheaton
A small dog suffered numerous bite wounds but survived a coyote attack in Wheaton, police said Monday.
The dog, a Bichon Frisee, was attacked by three coyotes during the late evening hours of Thursday, Dec. 16.
Authorities said the dog was in the rear yard of a home along Marywood Trail when its owner heard the dog yelping. The owner looked outside and saw the attack.
The owner then ran outside and yelled at the coyotes, causing them to leave the area. Authorities said a veterinarian treated the dog for its injuries.
Wheaton officials are reminding residents that small pets and small children should always be monitored by an adult when outside. They also said residents should call 911 when a wild animal acts aggressively toward humans.
