Classmates celebrating 50th reunion take part in West Chicago homecoming parade
Lillian Domzalski was not a homecoming queen at West Chicago High School. Dorothy Dempsey, another parade participant, was a homecoming queen.
Several members of West Chicago Community High School's Class of 1966 piled into a pickup truck Friday afternoon and took a ride down memory lane - literally - as part of their alma mater's homecoming parade.
"I don't ever recall a class asking to come back and be in the parade," said Becky Koltz, Community High School District 94 spokeswoman. "We were really excited to include them."
Class of 1966 alumna Lillian Domzalski said she enjoyed taking part in the festivities with her classmates. In addition to the parade, Domzalski had plans to attend the football game Friday night.
"We just thought it would be fun," she said. "Fifty years, it's a special year. We figured it was appropriate."
Festivities will continue today for the class at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club, where about 60 alumni from near and far will be reuniting to share their memories from the 1960s.
Diane Glendenning traveled from California to take part in the reunion. She said she especially loved interacting with the current students Friday, throwing them candy and asking them how old they are and what they plan to do after school.
"It feels like coming home every time I come for a reunion," she said. "We all feel so happy to be here. It's joyous."
