No one injured in Wheaton fire

Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a Tuesday night blaze in Wheaton that left half a condominium building uninhabitable.

Wheaton firefighters responded about 8:15 p.m. to the 800 block East Farnham Lane and arrived to find a fire in the attic of the eight-unit structure. Some of the flames had spread between floors and into the walls.

Officials said the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. While several of the condominium units were occupied when the fire started, residents were evacuated safely. No injuries were reported.

Authorities said Wednesday a damage estimate hasn't yet been determined. The Wheaton Building Department said half the building is unsafe for occupancy.

Firefighters were assisted at the scene by Wheaton police and fire crews from Carol Stream, West Chicago, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, Hanover Park, Warrenville, Winfield and Glenside Fire Protection District.
