Kids learn while having fun at Harvest Festival in Glenview

The weather could not have turned out better for the first Harvest Festival at the Glenview New Church School on Oct. 22. Parents, students, and the surrounding community alike joined together to celebrate the beautiful fall day and harvest season.

The festival offered not only a day of entertainment but education as well. A Johnny Appleseed impersonator gave out apples and told his epic tale of how he became known as Johnny Appleseed. A wooden apple press was used to demonstrate how cider is made, and children had the opportunity to harvest potatoes from the Glenview New Church School’s community garden to take home.

“It’s amazing to watch the kids’ faces in awe over experiencing how some of the food we eat comes straight from the ground,” states one active community member and garden leader at the Glenview New Church School.

Guests enjoyed musical performances by local performing artist, Whitey O’ Day, accompanied by the GNCS music teacher, Bonny Scheer. There were hayrides, make-your-own taffy apples, face painting, a pumpkin patch with pumpkin carving and painting, a moonwalk and more.

The Glenview New Church School offers an education that focuses on outdoor learning and hands-on experiences. To learn more about the Glenview New Church School, call (847) 724-0057 or send an email to admissions@glenviewnewchurch.org
