Store offers gifts from developing countries
A trip to the Gifts of the World store at Christ Community Mennonite Church in Schaumburg can help you give a beautiful gift twice over this Christmas season.
The store sells unique, handmade nativities as well as other works by artisans in developing countries around the globe. Their purchase makes a great gift for both a friend or family member as well as for the actual artisan.
For every $1,200 to $1,500 in sales at the Gifts of the World store, a whole year's income is provided for an artisan in a developing country.
Other items available at the store include handcrafted jewelry, home decor, fair trade coffee, chocolate and many more.
Gifts of the World has also recently added handmade Amish wood toys such as children's rocking horses and wood marble games, as well as other wood items, such as quilt racks, napkin holders, paper towel holders and more.
The store also sells handmade quilts, quilted wall hangings and Amish peanut butter, apple butter and strawberry-rhubarb spread.
The fair trade organization Gifts of the World buys items from Ten Thousand Villages, SERRV International and Equal Exchange coffee.
The store's hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday in November and December. Throughout the rest of the year, the hours are 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
During the month of December, you'll receive a gift with your purchase. Come Dec. 11 for a holiday open house and enter a drawing for a gift basket.
The store, located next to the church, is at 888 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg. The store is run completely by volunteers.
