Cary police arrest one man, seek help locating second, in home invasion
One man is in custody, and a second is being sought, in connection with allegations they broke into a Cary apartment last year and held up its occupants at gunpoint.
Deon Hollandsworth, 20, of the 1600 block of Lorelei in Zion, appeared in court Monday following his weekend arrest on two counts of armed robbery and one count of home invasion in the Sept. 29 incident in the 200 block of North Second Street, police said.
Cary police are asking for the public's help in locating his suspected accomplice, Ricardo Perez, 18, who is believed to be living currently in the Racine or Kenosha, Wis. area. He also faces two counts of armed robbery and one count of home invasion.
The charges stem from allegations the two men hatched a plan, while attending a party within the same complex, to rob the apartment's occupants the night of Sept. 29.
"They went out there looking to rob these individuals of drugs and money, and that's what they did," Cary Deputy Police Chief Ed Synek said.
Authorities said the men entered the apartment through an unlocked door, pointed a firearm at the occupants and stole two phones, a small amount of cash and drugs.
Hollandsworth, who was being held at the McHenry County jail and unable to post a $10,000 cash bond, is scheduled to return to court May 11 on charges that could land him up to 30 years in prison if he is convicted.
Police describe Perez as standing about 5 feet tall, weighing 120 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He has visible tattoos under one eye and on his neck, police said.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-762-7867 or their local police department. He should be considered armed and dangerous, Synek said.
