This week's photo entries a global weather report

Each week's DuPage County Neighbor section includes at least one entry in our Photo Finish photography contest.

Our photo staff picks some of their favorite submissions to run each week and then one overall monthly winner.

Maybe it's the run of unseasonably warm temperatures, but each of this week's top three picks seems to have some connection to the weather.

Larry Pearlman, a world traveler and frequent contributor to our contest, talks about how cold it was when he shot one of Amsterdam's famous canals.

And John Maystadt of Roselle, who has two entries in our contest, continues the theme. He talks about the chill in the air when he took his picture in Great Smoky Mountains National Park on this page and the, uh, lack of chill in the air at Newport Beach, Calif., for the photo on Page 2.

If you'd like to submit a photo of your own for consideration, email it in .jpg format with at least 300 dpi resolution to ssanders@dailyherald.com.

Include your name, address and a phone number, plus a description of where you took the photo and the occasion for it.

The monthly winner will receive a $50 gift certificate, good at PJ's Camera, Pickwick Place Plaza, 662 Roosevelt Road, Glen Ellyn.

John Maystadt of Roselle says he captured this image along the trail to Clingman’s Dome in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. “Although it was quite warm in the valleys, the hilltop temperatures were in the lower 40s. Even without the chill, the panorama provides the goose bumps.” Courtesy of John Maystadt
