Keep promises on golf course

Good citizens expect their elected leaders to do what they say while abiding by our laws, particularly when legal agreements are in place. That’s why I believe it’s wrong what our leaders are doing in Lake County.

Though I myself have no vested stake in a Ft. Sheridan golf course, the facts are a course did exist there and Lake County politicians had the existing course bulldozed while promising to replace it. Though the property deed has always required a golf course to run with the land, no feasible plan was ever in place to replace the bulldozed course.

The key word being “feasible”.

Yet the politicians advertised to the world they were going to replace it with a new course, based on that deed’s requirement.

Hardworking people bought into those promises: a commitment. Now the politicians are reneging on that commitment. In typical political form and in an obvious attempt to divert blame, they nearly unanimously voted to ask the Army to be the ones to allow them to renege on that commitment by asking them to remove the deed requirement.

All after the fact, after people bought into these politicians’ promises. Those who make such rash decisions (bulldozing the existing golf course), cannot keep their commitments, and try to divert responsibility have no business being in public office.

This includes the then-President of the Forest Preserve Bonnie Thomson Carter and anyone who voted on behalf of bulldozing the existing course. Be sure to vote in 2012. Good citizens of Lake County can’t afford more bad leadership.
