Pets strut their stuff in Wauconda parade

Submitted by Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce

Residents enjoyed the dog days of summer at the Wauconda Farmers Market second annual pet parade Aug. 2 in downtown Wauconda. Aptly named “Back to Drool” just in time for kids heading back to school, the event was hosted by the Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Bark ‘N’ Town Pet Resort & Spa.

All local pets were welcomed to participate with their owners. Costumes were encouraged, but were not required. There were four contest categories with prizes: School Spirit, Owner/Pet Look Alike, Most Exotic Pet and Best Pet Trick.

Ÿ Robby Modica of Wauconda, and his black Labrador retriever, Miley, won the School Spirit Award. Miley sported a cheerleader uniform complete with skirt and starred headband.

Ÿ Six-year-old Abbey Knebel of Volo and her 130-pound English mastiff, Jade, won the Owner/Pet Look Alike. Both showed off their fashion sense with matching “Hello Kitty” backpacks and pink headbands.

Ÿ Gianna Modica of Wauconda, and her bearded dragon, Louie, took the prize for Most Exotic Pet. Louie decided to don a Santa’s hat for his stroll, in Gianna’s hands, down Main Street.

Ÿ And, the Best Pet Trick of the day was performed by Angel, the beagle, who shook hands, gave a high-five and balanced a treat on her nose for her owner, Kelly Mills of Wauconda.

The chamber would like to thank its event judges, Jocelyn Wilhelm of My Town Wauconda, Maria Weisbruch of Bliss Wine & Gifts and Monica Jablonski of Vickie’s Personal Touch/Energee Center.
