Light of Christ’s mobile food pantry event hands out 10,000 pounds of food

Submitted by Light of Christ

Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Algonquin served 210 individuals and families which could translate to feeding approximately 1,200 people with 10,000 pounds of food.

It was all done under the leadership of Greg and Philomena Bruner and their volunteer team of 86, at the mobile food pantry on the church property on Saturday, July 27.

Thrivent provided the cost of the food and truck driver for the two-hour event.

The Northern Illinois Food Bank program, along with the help of the local food bank under the leadership of vice president Sal Maggio, added to the team to make this a successful event.

Along with the free food, nurses on hand offered guests the opportunity to have their blood pressure checked and also be checked for diabetes; these two tests were done at no cost to the guests.

This ministry of Light of Christ gave all of the volunteers a chance to extend God’s caring love to all in attendance.
