Legal, perhaps, but certainly wrong
In his endorsement for trustee of the Dupage Forest Preserve District 6, Roger Kotecki noted the importance of our preserves to quality of life. Of course, as a former candidate for trustee myself, I agree with Kotecki who served many years himself as a trustee. In that capacity, I thought he did well. He showed himself a knowledgeable advocate for forest preserve expansion.
However, our quality of life depends upon more than just open spaces and abundant wildlife. It depends upon the security which we enjoy in the ownership of property. Unfortunately, the forest preserve has developed a reputation for the rapacious use of its powers of “eminent domain,” whereby it can take private property anytime and anywhere it wants. While that may be legal, it most certainly is wrong.
That is why I endorse Al Murphy for trustee in District 6. He, too, will resist the reckless disregard of our property rights that has driven the forest preserve over the years.
