Hampshire man charged with prescription robberies
A Hampshire area man has been charged in connection with two prescription drug robberies in Elgin, according to police.
Kevin A. Coleman, 28, of the 12N800 block of Brier Hill Road near Hampshire, was arrested Friday and charged with robberies in January and earlier this month, police said.
Coleman is charged with entering Wal-Mart Jan. 18, passing a threatening note to the pharmacist and demanding Adderall before leaving with the drug, police said. Adderall is a widely abused controlled prescription drug used in the treatment of ADHD.
According to Lt. Sean Rafferty, Coleman may have been wearing a ski mask in the first robbery.
Coleman also is charged with a similar robbery March 14 at Target, 300 S. Randall Road, in which he was wearing a wig, dark glasses and a hat when he passed a note to the pharmacist, Rafferty said.
Coleman was linked to both robberies Friday after paramedics at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville found Adderall pills in his pockets, according to a Vernon Hills police report. Coleman was taken to Condell for an evaluation and admitted to the Wal-Mart robbery while in police custody, the report said. Elgin police arrested Coleman after questioning by their detectives.
Bail was set at $100,000 in court Saturday. Coleman is being held in the Kane County jail in lieu of 10 percent bond while awaiting his next court appearance, scheduled for April 4 in St. Charles.
