Jail time for Mount Prospect man convicted of striking children
A Mount Prospect man charged last month with striking two children with a board and belt has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery.
A Cook County judge sentenced Lewis J. Hill III to 16 days in jail. A misdemeanor is punishable by up to 364 days in jail. The judge granted a one-year order of protection against the 21-year-old man on behalf of the victims.
A representative from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services notified Mount Prospect about potential abuse of a 7-year-old after the child made statements to an adult who notified state authorities, police said in a prepared statement.
After interviewing the child and the child’s 6-year-old sibling, authorities determined both children had been struck by a board and a belt, police said.
