Player capsules: 2010 Bear draft selections
Rd. 4/109 Corey Wootton, DE, 6-6, 270 Northwestern
Started 35 games at right end in his final three years after starting 12 games at left end as a freshman in 2006. Was a potential first-round pick after a junior season in which he had 16 tackles for loss and 10 sacks but suffered a torn ACL in the postseason Alamo Bowl and decided to stay in school after January '09 surgery. Worked hard to get back on the field for '09 season but was clearly not the same player (21 tackles, 6 for loss, 4 sacks) and lacked the quickness and explosiveness of a year earlier, when he had 42 tackles. Has an excellent frame with room to add weight. Ran a disappointing 4.9 40 at Northwestern's pro day, but he's still not 100 percent recovered from knee surgery, although he's expected to be at full strength by the start of training camp. A smart player, who showed his toughness by coming back early following surgery and worked very hard to get back on the field. If he regains al the quickness and speed he showed as a junior, he'll be a steal.
Rd.5/141 Josh Moore, CB, 5-11, 188 Kansas State
Declared for draft with one year of eligibility remaining. Started 5 games as a true freshman in 2006 with 35 tackles, 5 pass break-ups and 1 interception. Academically ineligible in '07. Came back strong in '08, started all 12 games and led the Wildcats in tackles with 76 with 12 pass break-ups and 3 interceptions. Again started all 12 games in '09 with 64 tackles, 11 pass break-ups and 2 interceptions. Lacks bulk and is physically weak. Bench-pressed 225 pounds just twice at the Scouting Combine. Doesn't have the strength to jam receivers and is far from a physical tackler in run support. Doesn't have great speed (4.52 in the 40) but has enough quickness to be an effective cover corner and has good ball skills, soft hands for the interception and the instincts and reactions to play man-to-man.
Rd.6/181 Dan LeFevour, QB, 6-3, 230, Central Michigan
Downers Grove native and Benet Academy High School graduate. Four-year starter who was tremendously productive as a passer and runner. The only player in NCAA history with 12,000 career passing yards and 2,500 career rushing yards. The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder accounted for an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision-record 150 career touchdowns and is second all-time with 15,853 yards of total offense. He threw 102 career TD passes and just 36 interceptions.
MAC offensive player of the year in 2007, when he threw for 3,652 yards with 27 TD and 13 interceptions and also ran for 1,122 yards and 19 touchdowns with a 6.0-yard average per carry. That year joined Vince Young as the only players in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision history to throw for 3,000 yards and run for 1,000 in the same season. As a freshman led CMU to MAC championship and first 10-win season in 27 years. Second all-time with 15,853 yards of total offense.
Rd. 7/218 J'Marcus Webb, OT, 6-8, 325 West Texas A&M
A Parade All-American at North Mesquite High School in Texas. Originally enrolled at the University of Texas but played there just one season before transferring to Navarro Junior College where he was a NJCAA All-American. Spent two seasons at Division-II West Texas A&M. Started 13 games at left tackle for WTAMU for an offense that rolled up a school-record 7,079 yards of total offense. Is a cousin of former NFL great OT Richmond Webb, who played 13 years in the league, including 11 with the Dolphins.
