Arlington Heights police arrest 15-year-old on DUI charge
A 15-year-old Mount Prospect boy was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence early Sunday morning after Arlington Heights police officers spotted him drifting across traffic lanes and turning without signaling, authorities said.
Officers were patrolling near the intersection of Arlington Heights and Golf roads just after 3:30 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle in front of the police car made an abrupt right turn onto Golf without signaling and drifted in its lane, almost hitting the curb, Arlington Heights Crime Prevention Officer Douglas Hajek said.
Officers stopped the vehicle and smelled a strong odor of cannabis coming from the juvenile, police said. Officers also found a bag of cannabis in the vehicle, according to police.
The boy was charged with driving under the influence, failure to signal, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle, no driver's license or permit, possession of marijuana and curfew violations.
He was released to his parents' custody later Sunday morning, Hajek said. No court date information was available.
