Pradel resting at home after heart procedure
Naperville Mayor George Pradel is resting at home this weekend after being hospitalized Thursday to fix a 95 percent blockage in a coronary artery.
Pradel’s daughter, Carol Pradel, said the mayor was in for a routine stress test last week, which he gets every six months, when his doctors became concerned and scheduled an angiogram. He wasn’t feeling any pain or discomfort.
“Thankfully they were able to go in, poke around a bit and find the blockage and fix it,” she said. “The doctors say he has the heart of a 40-year-old but his arteries just aren’t as good.”
Within hours of the procedure Pradel was out walking the halls of Edward Hospital and chatting up fellow patients.
“You know the doctors tell him to take five-minute walks and they turn into 25-minute walks because he always runs into someone he knows and has to talk to them,” she said.
By Friday morning, she said she dropped her father off at home under strict orders to rest. If he feels up to it, he can return to work on Monday.
Pradel was re-elected to his fifth mayoral term last year after his doctors gave him a clean bill of health.
He had a minor heart attack in February 2010, had stents inserted in 2006 and had open heart surgery in 1993. The stent inserted Thursday, his third, is in a new area, Carol Pradel said.
“Doctors say this is a new area that is not at all related to his previous issues so he’s good,” she said. “He thanks everyone for their support and well-wishes.”
