Film festival in works for Westmont

Organizers of the inaugural Westmont Frozen Film Festival are calling for entries from budding Steven Spielbergs and Ron Howards.

Sponsored by Westmont Park District and the Progressive Village Performance Network, the grass-roots event is designed to call attention to area filmmakers and talent.

Organizers say they’re looking for features (less than 120 minutes) and shorts (less than 30 minutes) made since 2005. Documentary, narrative and animated films, along with music videos, also are welcome.

“This is one step closer to having PVPN be a diversified performing arts group,” President Robert Plowman said. “I would like to see all forms of art being represented by our organization.”

The PVPN board will review submissions and consider winners for each category. Entries will be presented from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Westmont Community Center, 75 E. Richmond, and the Westmont Senior Center, 55 E. Richmond.

Those submitting films on DVD only can do so by accessing the online registration at www.wpd4fun.org or by logging on to www.pvpn.weebly.com, and filling out the registration form. The early-bird entry fee had been extended to Jan. 31. All film entries must be submitted before Feb. 20.

In association with the park district, the Progressive Village Performance Network is an organization with a mission to inspire, nurture, challenge, amaze, educate and empower artists and audiences to artistically enhance the village through diverse access and a variety of participation opportunities.
