A few ideas on correcting America
In answer to Leo Dietrich’s and John Babush’s recent letters pondering the question of what is happening to America, I would submit that over many years and for a variety of reasons America, its corporations and especially its politicians, have become corrupt.
Their priority is serving their interests first, not America’s. Here’s a few solutions:
Ÿ Make corporations’ board of directors personally and criminally liable for fraud, negligence and depositor losses. If we could make this one legal change, the conduct of America’s corporations, especially those with fiduciary responsibilities to depositors, would change overnight. Confidence in America’s public companies and capital markets would soar.
Ÿ Mandate that any law Congress passes applies to them as well as the public. Right now, Congress is exempt from “Obama Care” as well as Social Security. They have their own taxpayer-funded health and retirement plans.
Ÿ Hold Senators and Congressmen personally liable for any deficit, each year. We elected these people to be our leaders, not spend us into bankruptcy. We did not elect them to feather their own nests with unlimited public spending. We did not elect them to buy votes. Either they balance the budget or face financial ruin.
The problem is how is an already corrupt government going to make these changes?
