Local kids to participate in national spelling bee

For the 24th year, the National Geographic Society will hold the National Geographic Bee for students in the fourth through eighth in thousands of schools across the United States and in the five U.S. territories, as well as in Department of Defense Dependents Schools around the world. The 2012 Bee is sponsored by Google.

The winner of Keller Junior High School’s Bee will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination to determine state competitors. All school winners are eligible to win the national championship and its first prize, a $25,000 college scholarship, at the national competition May 24-25, 2011 in Washington, D.C.

Keller’s Contestants for this year’s Bee are: Jesus Aranda, Christina Candotti, Matt Foster, Sruthi Gurvder, Marlene Lopez-Soriano, Nick Pentz, Eddy Petritis, Juliana Rios, Leah Routson, David Sayar, Rhaldo, Schimper, Aditya Shedge, Deanna Smith, Shahir Taj, and Danny Zawaszki. The school’s bee assistants are: Paige Alt, Kaitlyn Cohen, Abby Paolicchi, and Maha Siddiqui.
